New Benefits of Blockbuster Drug Cialis Discovered; Sales Expected To Explode Says DoctorSolve.com

Surrey, BC (PRWEB) November 30, 2011

Cialis, also known under the generic name, tadalafil, has recently been approved by the FDA for treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). With the potential to double the treatment offered already by the multi-billion dollar erectile dysfunction (ED) industry, online pharmacies are bracing for the sales explosion.

An FDA news release dated October 6, 2011 indicates that in two separate clinical trials, men suffering from BPH were given 5mg of Cialis once daily “experienced a statistically significant improvement in their symptoms of BPH compared to men who were treated with placebo.” More importantly, another study conducted in association by the FDA, found that “men who experienced both [erectile dysfunction] and BPH and who took 5mg of Cialis once daily had improvement in both their symptoms of BPH and in their [erectile dysfunction] compared to men who were treated with placebo.”

According to an article titled FDA Approvals: Tadalafil for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia in the Medscape Education Clinical Briefs, tadalafil is a phosphodieterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitor which “improves erectile function by increasing the amount of cyclic guanosine monophosphate in the smooth muscle of the corpus cavernosa,” leading to “increases in penile blood flow, resulting in penile erection during sexual stimulation.” But recent studies have also shown that “PDE5 inhibition also affects concentration of cyclic guanosine monophosphate in the smooth muscle of the prostate, the bladder, and their vascular supply” causing an improvement in BPH symptoms.

BPH and erectile dysfunction can both have a significant impact on a man’s quality of life. Men suffering from BPH frequently experience sudden urges to urinate, difficulty starting to urinate, frequent urination, and a weak urine stream. These symptoms can not only interrupt regular daily activities, but they have also been known to interrupt sleep and nighttime activities. Alternatively, erectile dysfunction can impede a regular sex life, which can have a significant impact on a man both physiologically and psychologically.

Cialis was originally approved in 2003 for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, going on to become a top seller at DoctorSolve.com and most international and Canadian pharmacies.

Both BPH and ED is a particularly common condition in older men. Dr. Zickler, of Doctorsolve.com, emphasizes that many men start to experience the prostate enlargement associated with BPH by the time they are 40; and by 80, estimates indicate as many as 90% of men suffer from BPH. Next to erectile dysfunction, BPH is a major concern for aging men. In light of these new findings, which seem to indicate the potential for treatment of both conditions with a single medication, Dr. Zickler, of DoctorSolve.com, expects that “prescriptions for Cialis are likely to increase dramatically.”

He encourages male patients who are not using alpha blockers or nitroglycerin, but who are also suffering from BPH and/or erectile dysfunction, should consult their physicians about the possibility of Cialis (or generic tadalafil) as a new treatment. 5mg, once daily, is recommended as effective for treating BPH and erectile dysfunction symptoms in most men.

As promising as these recent findings may be, however, the FDA warns that Cialis is not suitable for all patients. According to the FDA press release, Cialis “should not be used in patients taking nitrates, for example nitroglycerin, because the combination can cause an unsafe decrease in blood pressure. Also, the use of Cialis in combination with alpha blockers for the treatment of BPH is not recommended because the combination has not been adequately studied for the treatment of BPH, and there is a risk of lowering blood pressure.”

Tadalafil (Cialis) joins a long list of other FDA-approved drugs for BPH symptoms: finasteride (Proscar), dutasteride (Avodart), dusasteride plus tamsulosin (Jalyn), and alpha-blockers terazosin (Hytrin), doxazosin (Cardura), tamsulosin (Flomax), alfuzosin (Uroxatral), and silodosin (Rapaflo).

More information about today’s FDA announcement is available on the FDA’s web site.
